Long time reader right from early childhood on. Can still remember what the Dewey Decimal system and card catalog files are. :) Mostly fiction, SF, historical, some military. Very limited horror.
Moved list from Goodreads early Feb 2023. Looks like I started using that in 2016. List is so not complete.

The Slow Regard of Silent Things (2014, DAW) 4 stars

interesting

It was quite a few years ago when I read this. (updating my book list) My recollection was I liked this quite a bit. But since it's a small bit in between the main series it might not be for you.

Below is a bit from the author on this book:

AUTHOR’S FOREWORD

You might not want to buy this book.

I know, that’s not the sort of thing an author is supposed to say. The marketing people aren’t going to like this. My editor is going to have a fit. But I’d rather be honest with you right out of the gate.

First, if you haven’t read my other books, you don’t want to start here.

My first two books are The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear. If you’re curious to try my writing, start there. They’re the best introduction to my world. This book …

I started reading or re-reading Dick Francis's books about a year ago. This is #10 and new to me. It's a good solid Dick Francis book that I enjoyed. I'm not sure if reading these books so close together is good or not but I have enjoyed each one. It's a good who-dun-it with a deeper than expected main character. But those darned handcuffs !

Flight of the Intruder (Hardcover, 2006, US Naval Institute Press) 4 stars

well,

Another re-read from the mid 1980's. I will admit to buying this book thinking I was clicking on what I really wanted. But went head anyway. I thought this was going to be just a good guys bad guys war story. But once you get in a bit it's much more than that. Sure there's a bunch of stuff on life flying from a carrier in Viet Nam. I liked it and will now look for more in the series. probably

Fool (Hardcover, 2009, Harpercollins) 4 stars

Not as Foolish as you might think

4 stars

I heartily enjoyed this book. Fools, Drools, Kings, would be kings and queens, bastards and even washer wenches. Very entertaining. I don't know the story of Shakespeare's King Lear, don't think that took any enjoyment away.

The Terraformers (EBook, 2023, Tom Doherty Associates) 3 stars

From science fiction visionary Annalee Newitz comes The Terraformers, a sweeping, uplifting, and illuminating exploration …

Tough starting but stick with it.

For me this took awhile to get in to. Its characters and setting were a little hard for me to get straight at first. But I held on and it was worth it.

There is much going on. "peoples" rights, politics, corp greed, personalities all over the place and more. I did end up liking it and was sorry it ended. Oh forgot about romance and connections.

Wow, Art

I very much enjoyed this gift book from the kids. The photography here is outstanding. I learned at the end of the book the process used for the big photos is "light painting". Different than traditional auto photography. There's a nice amount of text that is interesting without getting into minute details. Gives a nice view as this is foremost an Art book.

Jester Leaps In (2000, St. Martin's Minotaur) 4 stars

It's a Mystery

4 stars

Fools, jesters, emperors and many other interesting characters live in the quite fun mystery . some history thrown in too. This is a re-read but it's been so long I didn't remember much of anything. So full enjoyment.

The Storyteller (Hardcover, 2021, Dey Street Books) 4 stars

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ("It's a …

Neat!

I don't read hardly any biographies, auto or not. Must have saw a blurb somewhere on this one. This was written by Dave during lockdown to keep from being bored. So you can hear his voice clearly. In fact I think I'll get the audio version sometime as he is the person reading it.

Hard not to know who Dave is. But how he got to today is not what I expected and he's describes the road well. I think you could say this is a kind of highlight reel but with great feeling.
I'd really like to meet his Mother. I'll leave it to you to read this and figure out why.

The past through tomorrow (1975, Berkley Pub. Corp.) 5 stars

Prophetic science fiction.

great

I'm not sure how many times I've re-read this book since I got it in 1974 or 1975. My copy looks a bit better than the photo here except for the missing first 125 pages.
I loved this book along with "Time Enough for Love". It must be time to add these back to my want to read list here.
/had to chuckle when it tried to input a 1974 date in the Add Read Dates section. didn't like it/

I liked it

Like City of Steel, I must have read this probably early 70's. Can't say I remember it at all. But I can say I really enjoyed this detective / SF / what if book. Yep, it can feel a bit 1950's in spots but that didn't bother me at all.
